Grown Upstairs, Sold Downstairs: Inside Our Essex Grow

Most dispensaries buy everything they sell from somewhere else. At Best Budz, a lot of what's on the shelf was grown one floor above your head. That's the short version of who we are: grown upstairs, sold downstairs.

A family shop on Route 133

Best Budz is run by a husband and wife who grew up vacationing on Cape Ann. What began as a small home grow became a licensed cultivation and retail business here in Essex, with the grow and the shop under one roof.

What happens upstairs

Our cultivation space is on the second floor. Plants are grown, harvested, dried and cured on site, then packaged here before they come downstairs. Because there's no distributor in between, the people who look after the plants are the same people you can ask about them.

The window behind the counter

There's a viewing window behind our counter that looks into the grow. You don't have to take our word that it's grown here. You can see it.

Look for our badge

On our online menu, products grown in this building carry the Best Budz badge. If it has the badge, it was cultivated upstairs, cured and packaged on site. We also carry a rotating selection from other licensed Massachusetts growers and makers, so there's always more to choose from.

Tested before it reaches the shelf

Every batch, ours included, is tested by a licensed independent Massachusetts testing lab before it can be sold, as state rules require. Lab information is printed on the label.

Giving back

A share of every sale goes to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Children's Hospital. It's personal for us: we do it for our grandson.
