Your First Visit to a Massachusetts Dispensary: What to Bring and What to Expect
Walking into a dispensary for the first time can feel like walking into a shop where everyone else knows the rules. They're simple, though. Here's what to expect at Best Budz in Essex, and at most licensed adult-use stores in Massachusetts.
1. Bring a valid photo ID
You must be 21 or older, and you'll need to show a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID every time you visit: a driver's license, state ID, passport or military ID. Out-of-state IDs are fine. Expired IDs and photos of IDs aren't.
2. Check in at the door
A staff member checks your ID before you come into the sales area. It takes a few seconds.
3. Browse, or order ahead
You can look at the menu in the store and ask questions at the counter. Or browse the online menu before you leave home, place an order, and pick it up. Ordering ahead is the fastest option on busy days.
4. Know the limits
Massachusetts limits how much an adult can buy and carry at once: up to one ounce of flower, or up to five grams of concentrate, or the equivalent in other products. Our staff keep track of this at the register, so you don't have to do the math.
5. Ask questions
Not sure what something is, how much is in a package, or how a product is labeled? Ask. The people behind our counter know the products, and they can point out which ones were grown upstairs.
6. Getting home
Keep products sealed and out of reach in your car, like in the trunk. Consuming cannabis in public or in a vehicle is against the law in Massachusetts, and so is driving while impaired.
